3. Mrs. Pythagoras has missed every collaborative planning session so far this year. She shuts the door when she sees the technology facilitator approaching and refuses to discuss strategies for integrating technology into the math curriculum. How do you entice her to collaborate with other teachers?

Strategies:
  • offer her the possibility to observe other teachers using technology
  • identify "teacher leaders" that work with ITF's in the math department to assist in PD
  • Assess each situation differently; the teacher may need some basic training
  • Show teacher how to use TI interactive software; it will let you use symbols
  • Suggest the use of online textbooks
  • Show her how students can use podcasts to work through difficult concepts
  • Show her Geometer Sketchpad

  • Offer to co-teach a lesson
  • Find out the reasons behind the shut-down
  • Watch out what she is doing and find ways to enhance it
  • Work with collaborative planning (once we get her to attend) and have all geometry teachers plan it & implement it together for debriefing

Strategies continued:
Make life easier by using applications such as Google Apps - maybe start with Calendar.
Mandate a few sessions to get them in and they might become interested.
Remember that teachers sometimes come with "baggage" that is a major roadblock - remember this and encourage using "baby steps".
Show them how it can make their job of teaching much easier.
Share discipline and attendance data from classrooms using technology well. These two factors will ultimately effect test scores.
Better access - preferably laptop.
Use STNA to show teachers what they don't know as a motivator.
